The Right Reverend Arthur David Seeland, Requiescat in Pace

The Right Reverend Arthur David Seeland, Bishop Ordinary Emeritus of the Diocese of the Pacific and Southwest, entered into glory this past Friday, 23 October. A Requiem Mass will be offered at the Church at 10 am Saturday morning, on what would have been his 88th birthday.

Commander A. David Seeland served in the United States Navy Chaplain Corps for twenty two years, retiring from his last duty station at the Philadelphia Navy Base. He served in the States at such places as Washington, D.C., serving for a time at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Early in his career he served at the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes. Overseas assignments included two tours of duty with the U. S. Marines in Viet Nam, where he served along side the man who later became Cardinal J. J. O’Conner. He also served in Rota, Spain, Baharin, among other places. He held several earned doctorate degrees. He was a graduate of Houghton, College, New York, and studied theology at Temple University (at the same time that Bill Cosby attended) and Princeton University. He had a counseling practice in the Philadelphia area.

Upon retirement from active duty, Bishop Seeland served as Archdeacon of the Diocese of the Resurrection and as Rector of Holy Sacraments Anglican Church, King of Prussia, PA. Following his election as the Bishop Ordinary of The Pacific and Southwest, he served on the Board of Trustees of Holyrood Seminary and President. He taught moral theology and conducted many bio-ethics seminars. Upon his retirement as Ordinary of the DPSW, he was named an Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of the Resurrection where he began. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, and four children: Eric, John, Tellef and Karen.

Rest eternal grant unto Bishop Seeland O Lord, and let Thy perpetual Light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen.
