Lenten Evening (Avarice)

The Lenten Wednesday Evening program continues tonight with a discussion of Avarice (Greed). This meeting will be hosted at the Eisenhart household. Please read the following verses prior to the session: Proverbs 1:15-19, 15:27, 21:26, 22:12, Isaiah 56:11, I Timothy 3:2-3,8, Titus 1:7.

Proverbs
1:15-19: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
15:27: He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
21:26: He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
22:12: The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Isaiah 56:11
Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

I Timothy 3:2-3,8
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous… Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre

Titus 1:7
For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre
